El Boletín Oficial del Estado se publica desde enero de 2009 exclusivamente a través de Internet, siguiendo la Ley de Acceso Electrónico de los ciudadanos a los servicios públicos.

Con una historia acumulada que supera los tres siglos, el Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE) ha entrado en una nueva etapa caracterizada por su difusión prácticamente en exclusiva en el mundo on line. Coincidiendo con el inicio del nuevo año la publicación heredera del periódico La Gazeta da su salto definitivo a Internet, un avance que se remonta a 1997 cuando se empezó a ‘colgar’ en Internet el índice de los últimos 30 días y que viene a dar cumplimiento a la Ley de Acceso Electrónico de los Ciudadanos a los Servicios Públicos.

El Ministerio de la Presidencia, del que depende la elaboración del BOE y que editará anualmente un DVD con todos los números virtuales de la publicación, estima que ahorrará seis millones de euros con la transición.

El acceso al sitio www.boe.es, que registra alrededor de tres millones de visitas diarias, continuará siendo gratuito.
